I designed this octopus specifically for this piece of bakelite which is such a gorgeous piece of marbled turquoise that I wanted to really show off the color mixture. This is some of the loveliest vintage bakelite/catalin that I've had the pleasure to carve, with swirls of cream, turquoise and a sort of aqua green mixed throughout. The octopus has red and black bakelite eyes inlaid and has tentacles waving and curling around in all directions. This octopus makes for a very handsome piece of jewelry. Because I also thought this piece might make a nice pendant, I've left the pin component off for now. I will let the winning bidder decide whether to make it into a pin, or a pendant, or perhaps even both. I would want to add a hidden eye-hook behind the loop in the tentacle above the head in order to add strength for making the piece into a pendant. If the winner decides to have the octopus made into a pin, I can attach the pin component with no problem. I also have pin components which have a bail attached so that it could be worn as a pin or a pendant. Whichever the new owner prefers will be fine with me. The octopus measures right at 3 inches at the longest measurement, about 1/2 inch thick or better in most areas. It's carefully carved and polished and I used a bit of enamel wash in areas to add shadow to details. My signature and the date are inscribed upon the back. Shipping Policy I carefully package all of my items in new jewelry boxes and new shipping boxes which I provide for free. I gladly ship with my customers' choice of shipping options and only charge actual shipping charges, no package or handling fees. Please note that insurance is HIGHLY advised but is optional. I can not be responsible for what happens to packages once I deliver them to the post office. I do my utmost best to ship items the day following reciept of payment, but there are times when I may need up to 4 days to get to the post office, anything beyond that and I will contact you.
